“My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother” – Proverb 6:20
Passing on God’s truth to the children helps to build the IMPACTFUL FAMILY: “My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother” (Pro.6:20). The family is the first school of faith; the foundational institution for transmitting spiritual and moral knowledge. An impactful family is created when children cherish and follow parental guidance. The Truth of God’s Word is for generational survival and sustainability. Parental Wisdom is illustrated by the use of these four metaphors:
A wearable adornment: “Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck" (v. 21 KJV). This phrase is a symbolic call for children to internalize parental instruction so that it becomes part of their identity and character.
A constant companion: The training is available at all times and in all circumstances, providing counsel all over the day and protection during the night – “When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you” (v. 22). A child who has internalized the parents' teaching will always have wisdom to draw upon.
A guiding light: Parental guidance is “a lamp” and “a light” that shows the right way to go (v. 23). Such a light provides clarity and vision, preventing the children from straying onto dangerous paths.
A life path: The "reproofs of instruction" or "corrective discipline" are described as "the way of life" (v. 23). This implies that a willingness to be corrected by one's parents is essential for staying on a productive and virtuous path.
The following are key Qualities of an Impactful Family:
Mutual Commitment to God’s Wisdom: As parents teach their children God's wisdom, and the children are receptive to it. The instruction is a partnership, with parents acting as a conduit for God's teachings.
Harmonized Parenting: The proverb highlights the importance of both the father's "commandment" and the mother's "teaching" working together, providing children with a comprehensive and balanced moral framework.
Active Listening from Children: An impactful family is not just one where parents speak, but one where children actively “keep” and "sustain" the instruction by intentionally guarding the wisdom they have received from internal and external threats.
Generational Continuity: By adhering to parental teachings, children ensure the continuation of faith and values. This strengthens the family unit and ensures that the legacy of wisdom is passed down to the next generation.
Protection from Destructive Forces. Within a broader context, the passage is an explicit warning against the dangers of adultery (vv.24-29). Heeding parental instruction is presented as the primary defence against temptations that lead to ruin.
Children who learn to cherish and obey their parents' guidance are being prepared to appreciate and submit to God's authority. Cultivating a home environment saturated in biblical truth and wisdom helps to establish a lasting, transgenerational legacy.

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
