Bible Meditation:
Ecclesiastes 10: 5-10

“If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success” – Ecclesiastes 10:10

LIFELONG LEARNING for IMPACT is about keeping the axe edge of knowledge, wisdom, and skills sharp: “If the ax is dull, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom brings success” (Ecc.10:10). Using an axe with a dull blade to chop wood would require a lot more energy to do the job. If the axe is sharp (which represents preparation, competence, and skill), then it doesn’t take as much effort. This infers working smarter, not necessarily harder. We’re never wasting time when sharpening our axe – updating knowledge, reskilling, and upskilling for greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Lifelong Learning is the continuous and voluntary pursuit of knowledge, skills, and values throughout life, with numerous benefits. Lifelong Learning brings success, high performance, productivity, and profit. These could be with respect to personal development, professional advancement, and spiritual maturity. From a Christian stance, lifelong learning means a continuous, humble, and motivated pursuit of knowledge and wisdom as a way to grow in faith, please God, fulfil His Will, and make Impact for His Glory. Lifelong learning will make each of us a better leader, parent, spouse, a better professional, or a better friend.

1Thessalonians 5:21 encourages believers to “test all things” or “examine everything carefully” and hold on to what is good. This attitude promotes continuous learning and discoveries in all aspects of life. We must never assume to have come to the end of knowledge, but commit to acquiring fresh insights and start working on learning new skills. God wants us to grow and flourish. It’s in my best interest to be a better version of myself a year from now than I am today. We can learn new information or skills by reading a book, taking a class or seminar, or talking to a mentor – all of which can now be done virtually.

Lifelong Learning is essential for several reasons, namely: personal growth; professional advancement; adaptability; creativity and innovation; social good; economic benefits; cognitive fitness, and spiritual wellness. Lifelong Learning boosts knowledge and skills, leading to a more fulfilling life. It keeps one up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and global best practices. Lifelong Learning enables adaptation to changing environments, technologies, and societal needs; fosters innovative thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Keeping the cutting edge of Lifelong Learning promotes social mobility, community participation, and productivity; and supports cognitive functions, mental well-being, and spiritual maturity and fulfilment.

In today’s dynamic, fast-paced world, Lifelong Learning is crucial for staying relevant and making personal, professional, and societal impact. In the absence of Lifelong Learning, the evil under the sun will persist: “Folly is set in great dignity, while the rich sit in a lowly place. I have seen servants on horses, while princes walk on the ground like servants” (vv.5-7).

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
