JESUS OUR LEADER

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many – Matthew 20:28

The New Testament shows Christ not only as Lord and Saviour but also as our Leader. In Him we have the greatest Leader the world has ever known. Although He never aspired for political leadership, His life has influenced the political scene through the centuries. He never was elected as a leader of a nation, but He has influenced people in every nation on earth. His is leadership based on Love, Sacrifice, and Service, not on Force. He is the epitome of efficiency, effectiveness, and excellence in leadership. Following His leadership principles, we are sure to succeed, prosper, and be eternally impactful.

Christ was always ahead of the multitudes, but never lost touch with them. He stood above the crowd, not in arrogance and pride, but in understanding, vision, and purpose. He knew where He wanted to go, and His life was passionately devoted to getting there. No other person has ever influenced humanity as positively and powerfully as has Jesus Christ – our Model and Pattern. Everything He did had a purpose.

John 10:3b says of Him: “…the sheep hear His voice: and He calls His own sheep by name, and LEADS them out.” In Mark 9:2 we read: “Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and LED them UP on a high mountain apart by themselves, and He was transfigured before them.” The Lord Jesus wants to lead each of us UP to the high mountains of spiritual significance, social relevance, and moral excellence.

Jesus our Leader values leadership in terms of spiritual worth and service rather than in worldly terms of fame, money, and power. His was servant-leadership by Example. He multiplied His Ministry by choosing twelve men to become Christ-like leaders and help Him actualize the universal programme of redemption. Every believer in Christ is today commissioned to follow our Leader to achieve His goal of bringing salvation to the world (Mt.28:19-20). It is a great comfort to know that we have a Leader in Christ whose style of leadership we can safely follow; One who lives in us by His Spirit, to lead through us!
