DIVINE PEACE (8)

"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety" – Psalm 4:8

DIVINE PEACE does not require a storm-free environment; it requires a Saviour-filled heart: "I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety" (Psa.4:8). In a world plagued by insomnia and mental distress, true rest has become a rare commodity. Many depend on favourable conditions, financial security, or medication to quiet their minds. However, in God’s agenda of Divine Performance – the supernatural reality where He executes His Word regardless of external crises – peace is an active, defensive shield.

Psalm 4 begins with an urgent plea and cry in distress: "Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!" (v.1). Allied with Psalm 3, it was written during the agonizing rebellion of David’s son, Absalom. Surrounded by betrayal and slander, David appealed to the God of his righteousness, having acknowledged a past pattern of divine performance (v.1b). In verses 2-3, he addressed his elite detractors who turned his royal glory into shame through lies. He confronted them with a spiritual reality: "the Lord has set apart him who is godly for Himself." This is the anchor of his peace – he knows he belongs to God, and based of that exclusive ownership, God is legally obligated to hear his voice.

Next, David proclaimed the Protocol of Rest (vv.4-5). He counselled his own soul and his listeners to meditate and be still. He commanded a cessation of internal panic. Instead of pacing the floor in anger or worry, the “Rest of Faith” demands offering the sacrifices of righteousness and putting absolute trust in the Lord. While the masses cried out for material prosperity – "Who will show us any good?" – David prayed for a superior, internal asset: The Light of God’s countenance! God had put a supernatural gladness in his heart that exceeded the joy of harvest (v. 7). In verse 8, the word “both” implies a seamless, simultaneous action – lying down, and immediately sleeping! He did not toss and turn.

David’s sleep was an act of faith with a safety anchored in "the Lord alone"! Divine Peace is not a psychological trick; it is the restful reward of knowing Who holds our tomorrow. The quiet of bedtime should be used to meditate on God’s past faithfulness rather than worry on current problems. Let’s value Divine Presence over prosperity, cultivating a relationship with God where His Presence alone is enough for our rejoicing. Our emotional stability cannot be tied to our bank account or social standing (v.7). We must surrender the need for control! Sleep is the true declaration of trust. When we close our eyes, we confess that God can run the universe quite well without our assistance (v. 8).

In Jesus’ Name, I declare that:

The God of my righteousness hears me when I call! I am set apart by Him for Himself; hence, no conspiracy against my destiny can stand.

Voices of slander, lies, and shame targeted at my reputation are silenced. I break the power of insomnia, night terrors, and racing thoughts.

The Lord has put a supernatural gladness in my heart that outshines any material wealth, and I step into the unshakeable Rest of God,

I will lie down in peace and sleep soundly, for my life is hidden in Christ. My safety does not depend on locks, systems, or armies, but on the Lord alone.

Adetokunbo O. Ilesanmi (Meditations)

Prayer:
Lord, our Shield and the Lifter of our heads, Who never slumbers nor sleeps, make us to lie down in Divine Peace, Rest and Safety, in Jesus' name.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
