THE SHEPHERD’S PSALM

Give ear, O SHEPHERD of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! – Psalm 80:1

Although the twenty-third Psalm is the Sheep’s Psalm, we can also view it as the SHEPHERD’S PSALM. Psalm 80:1 describes God as the Shepherd of Israel, who led Joseph like a flock. Similarly, while declaring his blessing upon Joseph, Jacob referred to “the Mighty God of Jacob” as the SHEPHERD, the Stone of Israel (Gen.49:24). If the LORD is your Shepherd, then, you can imagine Him speaking these reassuring words to you, as you set out into this new month:

Son/daughter, trust Me as your Shepherd, and you will never lack.

I promise to meet all of your needs according to My riches in Glory.

I’ll lead you to green pastures and settle you beside still waters.

I’ll usher you into REST and grant you all-round NOURISHMENT.

I’ll RESTORE your soul and RENEW your spirit as you spend time with Me.

My Word will GUIDE and TEACH you how to live and walk right.

I’ll OVERCOME your feelings of fear and insecurity, even the fear of death.

By My rod and staff, I’ll always be with you, to DISCIPLINE and DIRECT you.

I’ll keep you SAFE and SECURE, even in the presence of your enemies.

I’ll endue you with STRENGTH with those who are against you.

I’ll pour upon you my overflowing ABUNDANCE of blessings.

I’ll daily accompany you with My GOODNESS and MERCY.

I guarantee you eternal, abundant life.

Every day is better when you know Me as your Shepherd.

Is the LORD your shepherd? Are you a member of His flock? The Shepherd’s benefits and blessings are only for genuine sheep of His flock. The world promises to shepherd us into darkness. Satan promises to shepherd us into destruction. Only the LORD can follow through on what He promises as the Shepherd of our souls.
