Psalm 97:1-12

The LORD reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores REJOICE – Psalm 97:1 (NIV)

Psalm 97:1-6 uses the imagery of a thunderstorm to illustrate the mighty works of the Lord. The Psalmist describes God’s power by painting a scene of rolling clouds, jagged forks of lightning, and rumbling thunder. The thick, dark clouds that hide the sun remind us that man cannot stand the full view of God’s glory: “clouds and darkness are round about Him…” (v.2). Lightning depicts a picture of God’s fiery wrath on His foes: “Fire goes before Him and consumes His foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles” (vv.3-4, NIV). The glory of God manifests in all of these forces of nature: “…all peoples see His glory” (v.6, NIV).

Each storm that rolls across the skyline brings to mind great truths: God is awesome in Power; He judges His enemies; and His glory fills the earth. God displays His Power even in the thunderstorm! So, when you behold the petrifying storm or the terrifying thunderstorm, join the Psalmist in praising God for His wondrous Power and Majesty. As you contemplate and adore the awesome, mighty, all-powerful God, let your soul instinctively sing: “How great Thou art.” Rejoice in God’s awesome Power!

Our meditation Psalm today begins with a command to the EARTH to rejoice (v.1); it refers to Zion and the daughters of Judah rejoicing (v.8); and ends with a command to the RIGHTEOUS to rejoice (v.12). Yours cannot be the exception to rejoicing! Whatever may be your present predicament or pressing circumstance, be encouraged by Paul’s admonition: “REJOICE in the Lord alway: and again I say, REJOICE” (Phil.4:4). Rejoice in the Revelation of God’s Power!

Prayer:
Lord, let the revelation of Your wondrous Power and Majesty activate rejoicing in my heart, provoke praise on my lips, and help to actualize Your Will and Purpose in my life in Jesus name.

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
