OMNIPOTENCE

“I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You" – Job 42:2.

The God of Impact is worthy to be glorified for His OMNIPOTENCE: “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You" (Job 42:2). Job acknowledged God’s omnipotence in carrying out His plans. God’s Attribute of Omnipotence means having Unlimited, Supreme Power to accomplish anything that is consistent with His perfect nature and will. The term derives from the Latin prefix omni- (meaning "all") and potens (meaning "powerful"). This “omni-attribute" along with omniscience and omnipresence, together define His absolute Lordship and Sovereignty. 

God has all power over all things at all times and in all ways. He possesses unlimited authority and strength, with nothing impossible for Him that is consistent with His nature. Moses too was reminded by God that He has all power to complete His purposes regarding the Israelites: “The LORD answered Moses, ‘Is the LORD’s arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you’” (Num.11:23). Here are further insights into key aspects of His Omnipotence:

Unlimited Power: God's Power is inherent; not derived from any external source. His Power is infinite; not subject to physical or natural limitations. Man needs tools and materials to create; God simply spoke the universe into existence: "By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth...For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast” (Psa.33:6,9). God has all power over all of creation, natural and spiritual forces (Job 38:8-11).

Purposeful and Consistent with His Nature: Omnipotence does not mean God can do illogical or contradictory things, such as lying or sinning, which would be contrary to His perfect, holy, and unchangeable nature (Heb.6:18; 2 Tim.2:13). His Power is not arbitrary or random, but is always used in perfect Wisdom, Love, and Justice to accomplish His redemptive purposes. God deploys His power to accomplish His holy will and purposes, which are always consistent with His perfect nature.

Impact on the World and Believers: God’s Omnipotence gives assurance that no purpose of His can be thwarted, and that He is in ultimate control of all circumstances, from the grand events of history to the details of individual lives. This is a Source of Security, Comfort and Hope for Believers who trust in His ability to protect, provide, and save, knowing that "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk.1:37). God is able to help in times of need and to fulfill all His promises: “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you" (Jer.32:17).

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us..." (Eph.3:20).
