MODEL OF IMPACTFUL LEADERSHIP (1)

“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter” – Hebrews 11:24

Moses is presented in the scriptures as a MODEL of IMPACTFUL LEADERSHIP through his faith: “By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” (Heb.11: 24-25). His “servant leadership” style, particularly his ability to lead the Israelites out of slavery and through the wilderness, his relationship with God, and his willingness to serve others, impacted both his people and the world. Despite his privileged upbringing as a prince of Egypt, he demonstrated faith by refusing to be identified as Pharaoh's son, choosing to suffer with God's people, and standing in faith to lead them through the Red Sea. 

Moses’ choices and actions to reject the luxury and power related with his upbringing, portrayed a personality that prioritized faith, spiritual identity, obedience, and trust in God over worldly gains. His exemplary and effective leadership emphasized humility, compassion, and a commitment to the people’s well-being, at the cost of personal comfort: “esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward” (v.26). Delivering Israel from bondage involved both military strategy and diplomacy, as he confronted Pharaoh and led his people through challenging circumstances. 

When the Israelites were trapped by the sea, pursued by Pharaoh's army, Moses, with faith in God's power, led them to cross the Red Sea: “And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace” (Exo.14: 13-14). He inspired the people’s trust in God's protection in times of crisis: “By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned” (v.29).

Moses’ decisions of faith provide a valuable model for leaders who seek to walk by faith, obedience, and trust in God even in the face of adversity. His unwavering faith in God’s promises enabled him to lead Israel out of slavery into the wilderness, and to receive the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, with an Impact that reverberated down through the ages. Moses's leadership is also noted in the New Testament, particularly in the context of Jesus as the greater Moses (Heb.3: 1-6).

These truths highlight the enduring significance of Moses's leadership and its connection to the broader narrative of redemption. Moses’ legacy continues to inspire leaders and shape the understanding of leadership in various contexts.
