KNOWING GOD’S PROMISES

“And now, O LORD GOD, You are God, and YOUR WORDS are true, and YOU HAVE PROMISED this goodness to Your servant” – 2 Samuel 7:28

KNOWING GOD’S PROMISES is the first key to entering into their perfection: “And now, O LORD GOD, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant” (2Sam.7:28). Those were David’s words of assurance before the Lord. They focused on his awareness and knowledge of what God had promised (v.21). He said in vs 25: “Now, O LORD GOD, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said.” The Bible is a treasure house and gold mine of divine promises preserved for believers.

Sadly, many individuals do not rely on God’s assurances, either because they are unaware of His promises or they simply do not believe them to be true. If we are unaware of the promises in the Scriptures, we can’t make ourselves believe. So, the first step on the Pathway to the Perfection of Divine Promises is to KNOW them. As we prepare to meditate daily in God’s Word, we must become familiar with these powerful promises, each of which teaches us more about His amazing Grace and peerless character. The following is a rich collection of five sets of promises that we should reflect upon, to help us in whatever we’re passing through. Let’s take encouragement in the reality of God’s embrace through the agency of His Word:

Promises of His Presence: God is with you in your peculiar situation, however tough it may be.

“When you pass through the waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor the flame scorch you” (Isa.43:2).

“Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, even to the end of the age” (Mt.28:20).

“…For He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU nor forsake you” (Heb.13:5b).

Promises of His Power: God never shirks in releasing Power and Strength to His people.

“He gives POWER to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases STRENGTH” (Isa.40:29).

“Behold, I send the PROMISE of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are ENDUED with POWER FROM ON HIGH” (Lk.24:49).

“But you shall receive POWER when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to ME…” (Acts 1:8a).

Promises of His Protection: these guarantee our divine defence, supernatural security and safety from all evil.

““For the LORD GOD is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Psa.84:11).

“Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge…” (Psa.91:3-4a)

Promises of His Provisions: God promises to provide us everything we need in our daily lives. In turn, He calls us to share our time, talents, and treasures with others.

“The young lions lack and suffer hungry; but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing” (Psa.34:10).

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil.4:19).

Promises of His Peace: the Lord Jesus Christ offers to us His followers, indescribable peace that the world cannot access.

“The LORD will give STRENGTH to His people; the LORD will bless His people with PEACE” (Psa.29:11).

“PEACE I leave with you, MY PEACE I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubles, neither let it be afraid” (Jh.14:27).

“And the PEACE of GOD, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil.4:7).

As we take the time and make the effort to meditate and KNOW GOD’S PROMISES, may we be established in His Presence, Power, Protection, Provisions, and Peace, in Jesus name! Amen!
