JESUS – MY FIRM FOUNDATION

For other FOUNDATION can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ – 1 Corinthians 3:11

As we commence the Celebration of our Saviour, let us start from the base: JESUS CHRIST as our FIRM FOUNDATION. He is the only Foundation for a full and fulfilling life: “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1Cor.3:11). He is the Foundation for everything that is of eternal value. It is only as our lives are built upon Christ that we will be able to face and overcome the challenges of life in a fallen, failing, and fading world (Jh.16:33).

Jesus Christ is the ROCK of ages – the Rock who never changes: “the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Heb.13:8). He is the Rock of our Salvation: the eternally enduring Rock upon which the Father has built our salvation. He is the solid Rock on which our lives can solidly stand. The apostle Peter described Him as the Living Stone: “Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house” (1Pet.2:4-5).

JESUS CHRIST is our precious Chief Cornerstone; and those who trust in Him will always have Him as a Solid Rock to cling on to. Christ, the Rock, is our sure hope. Corporately, the Church – the Body of Christ – is founded on a structure that has “Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Cornerstone” (Eph.2:20).

Beloved, Jesus is the solid Rock you can cling to, stand upon, or be shielded by when the storms of life blow and beat against you: “And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock” (Mt.7:25). On Him you stand strong. In Him you are secure. Let this beautiful hymn become your faith confession; sing it and mean it:

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
