Proverbs 14: 26-35

“A SOUND HEART is LIFE to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones” – Proverbs 14:30

The condition of our spiritual HEART largely defines our Quality of LIFE and state of HEALTH and HEALING: “A SOUND HEART is LIFE to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones” (Pro.14:30). The New International Version says, “A HEART at PEACE gives LIFE to the body; but envy rots the bones.” A sound heart or a heart at peace does the body immeasurable good. It releases life and vitality to the body, whereas negative emotions such as envy and jealousy cause the bones to rot and strength to be depleted.

This is a life verse. Envy rots the bones. In the Hebrew it literally means envy makes the bones disintegrate. This is an important verse. This verse is telling us that there is some kind of connection between the spiritual and the physical. There is some kind of connection between the heart and the body, between what goes on inside and what happens outside. The attitude of the heart has a direct impact on the physical well-being or lack thereof. If your heart is at peace, it gives life to the body. Envy causes the bones of the body to disintegrate. Ultimately, our attitude, the way we approach life’s problems and trials largely determines our state of health and well-being.

Nurturing and sustaining a sound and merry heart is possible when “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom.8:28). Though we live in a challenging world that’s filled with sin, sickness, heartache and despair, these are not the final words. There is a word beyond sin and the fall; and that is JESUS. His coming into the world brought salvation, forgiveness, healing, and deliverance. “All things” is utterly inclusive. It includes all that can happen in the will of God to a child of God: the good and the bad, health and sickness, sunlight and shadow, high noon and midnight, life and death. The Word is just as true in the hospital as in the sanctuary. Nothing can happen to God’s Child that is outside of the “all things” of Romans 8:28.

Believing and standing on this Truth, we can have a sound and merry heart and promising health even in the darkest moments of life. No matter how unexplainable things might seem, we know that GOD IS AT WORK – whether we see it or not, whether feel it or not, or whether we understand it or not. Irrespective of having or not having the answers, our attitude makes all the difference! We can cultivate a sound heart and cheerful spirit if we believe that God in heaven loves us, and is at work in ways that we can’t see or understand.

Let’s recall Proverbs 17:22A merry HEART does good, like MEDICINE, but a broken spirit dries the bones. This implies that a cheerful heart boosts healing. Our attitude and disposition to life’s problems and trials, actually brings about sound health. Even medical research suggests that there is healing quality in an attitude of cheerfulness. It would do us a world of good to learn to cultivate a positive spirit and be surrounded by positive people. Allowing a negative, hostile, hopeless spirit in or around one may only lead to prolonged sickness, deteriorating conditions of health, and worst, death! Our mental attitude, the joyfulness or lack thereof, has a great deal to do with whether we get sick, how bad we get sick, whether we get well, and how quickly we get well. A Sound Heart releases Vitality to our entire being!

I believe the same applies to a Nation with a Sound Heart: Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (v.34). “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2Chr.7:14).

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
