DIVINE PRESENCE AND COURAGE

“...Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your GOD is WITH YOU wherever you go” – Joshua 1:9b

Joshua’s Call illustrates the strong link between DIVINE PRESENCE and COURAGE: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your GOD is WITH YOU wherever you go” (Jos.1:9). True courage is not the absence of fear; it is the absolute assurance that God walks into every battle with us. When we realize that the Creator of the universe is our permanent companion, insecurity flees, and bold faith takes over our lives. His Presence transforms us into bold and courageous conquerors!

Joshua found himself stepping into shoes that felt too big for him to fill. Moses – the legendary leader by whose hand the Red Sea split, who pulled water from a rock, and spoke with God face-to-face – was dead (vv.1-2). Now, the mantle of leadership was passed down to Joshua; to arise and cross the Jordan River. God does not allow us to get stuck mourning our past seasons; His Presence always calls us forward into new territory. Joshua was tasked with leading millions of people into a territory of fortified cities and giant warriors. Joshua knew his own limitations; that he lacked Moses’ decades of experience, and likely felt overawed by the sheer weight of his mission. But God did not give him a manual on military strategy or a checklist on political leadership; God gave him a singular and firm guarantee: Divine Presence!

God promised that every single place the sole of Joshua’s foot stepped had already been given to him (vv.3-4). His Presence turns potential property into a legal inheritance. He also promised His unbeatable defence: that no man would be able to stand before Joshua all the days of his life. Just as He was with Moses, He would be with Joshua and not leave or forsake him (vv.5-6). Courage was repeated as a non-negotiable requirement. Joshua must be strong and very courageous to divide the inheritance and to strictly obey the law of God – the Key to prosperity (vv.6-8). Good Success is directly tied to keeping our minds saturated with God's thoughts and our mouths filled with His Word!

God looked at Joshua’s trembling knees and issued the ultimate decree (v.9). He didn’t say the giants would disappear or that the walls would fall down instantly. He simply said, "I am with you." When God enters our situation, our natural weaknesses are swallowed up by His Supernatural Strength. We do not need to figure out how to conquer the future on our own; we just need to step forward into our assignment, knowing that God is already standing in the room with us. Courage is a command, not a feeling. Fear and dismay are cancelled because God’s Presence travels with us everywhere we go (Deut.31:8).

In Jesus’ Name, I declare that:

By my God, I am strong and supernaturally courageous. I shall not be fearful or dismayed by life’s challenges because the Lord is with me.

Everywhere the soles of my feet tread, I claim as territory. I cast down every spirit of fear, panic, and anxiety; they have no legal right in my mind.

No weapon or demonic obstacle can defeat me all the days of my life. My God will never fail, leave, or abandon me in life’s battles.

By His Word, my way is made prosperous and successful. I step into my future with bold confidence because God is with me wherever I go.
