Bible Meditation:
Psalm 3: 1-8

Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” But You, O Lord, are a shield for me – Psalm 3: 2-3a

The Bible encourages Believers to DARE TO HOPE IN GOD: Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head” (Psa.3: 2-3). We’ve undergone a two-month adventure of meditations in God’s Words of Hope and Help. This is not for nothing! The world drives a relentless assault of hopelessness. The media throbs with reports of the stress, desperation, and hopelessness many people are experiencing. Family upheavals, marital separations, addictions, layoffs, unemployment, bankruptcies, poverty, violence, and natural disasters are putting enormous pressure on multitudes to give up hope and succumb to despair.

The invasion of hopelessness is not only witnessed by unbelievers. Many Christians face difficult times in their finances, almost dwindling to the end of their rope. In a turbulent world, full of difficulties, depression, and discouragement, “Is there any Hope?” is a question we often ask. We may feel overwhelmed by needs; the difficulties of holiness in an unholy time, or keeping pure in the midst of pervasive impurity. At such times, we must know that there is always room for Hope. No matter what difficult situations we may be facing, He is our “very present help” in trying times (Psa.46:1). Even though we may feel encircled by troubles on every side, the Lord wants to be our Hope and Help – “the One who lifts [our] head” (Psa. 3:3).

Psalm 3 was David’s Cry for Help, at a time when his whole life had been turned upside down. It articulates the concerns of our hearts before the Lord, and leads us to greater trust in Him. To be blessed of God does not infer absence of problems. David, a man after God’s own heart, had more problems than most would imagine. Things were so tough; his son, Absalom rebelled, and wanted to take his father’s life and throne! He courted the favour of the people, deceptively stole the hearts of many, and announced himself as king, until he was fatally stopped. Amidst the dilemma, David trusted God to protect, sustain, and deliver him. Even when he despaired of life, his hope was not in this world or the things of this world, but in God and what He has promised in eternity. No matter what we face in life or why, when we trust God, He’ll sustain and deliver us.

Psalm 3 calls us to pause for a moment to be aware of God’s attention to our troubles, and that He protects us and answers our prayers, even if adversaries have concluded that “there is no help” for us in God (v.2). God gives us rest and will give us life (v.5). In Lamentations 3:21, Jeremiah was troubled but he said, “Yet I still dare to hope” (NLT). This “weeping prophet” found himself in a hopeless situation. He watched the Temple of the Lord being burned to the ground by the Babylonians. His heart broke as the elements of the Temple were stolen, and taken to Babylon to be used to worship false gods. In the midst of the devastation, Jeremiah prophesied God's words of judgement to the people of Judah and Jerusalem. In anguish, he lamented, Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost” (Lam. 3:18 NLT).

In the midst of despair, Jeremiah received courage to dare to hope again, as he remembered: God’s unfailing Love, fresh mercies, unending faithfulness, and inheritance. God's Word is designed to transform us from the inside out. Reading and applying its truths will renew our Hope and direct our focus. Are we in need of hope today? We can choose to remember God's faithfulness, love, and mercy, despite the despair around! We can DARE to HOPE! In troubled times, people need Hope and they also need to encounter Believers who are filled with Hope. God calls us to: return to Him with humility, rebuild our Hope, restore Hope to others, and enjoy Divine Help and Blessings (v.8).

Our Vision

The vision of KCOM is that:
"the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas" (Habakkuk 2:14).
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
