CELEBRATING GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY

Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts: “I am the First, and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God – Isaiah 44:6

The Almighty God is the Creator of and Sovereign Ruler over the Universe. His sovereignty is the attribute by which He rules His entire creation. His sovereignty implies that He is omniscient, omnipotent, and absolutely free. The Sovereign God possesses all knowledge, unlimited power, and is absolutely free to do whatever He wills to do anywhere, at any time, to fulfil His eternal purpose in every single detail without interference. No one and nothing can hinder, compel, or stop Him. He is able to do as He pleases always, everywhere, and forever. The higher than the highest needs no one’s permission!

God is always aware of exactly where you are and what you’re doing at whatever time. Nothing is hidden from His sight: “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (Heb.4:13). He knows your thoughts and your words: “For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O LORD, you know it altogether” (Psa.139:4); “…for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off for ever” (1Chr.28:9b).

Above all, God knows what will happen in the future: “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure’ (Isa.46:10). He knows everything: “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things” (1Jh.3:20). He knows you and me intimately (Psa.139: 1-10). He is aware of every trial and temptation, every illness, every fear and worry, every shattered heart, and every challenge we face. No one can dissuade Him from His purposes; nothing turns Him aside from His plans. With Him, there can be no unforeseen circumstances, no accidents! He is sufficient unto Himself for all things!

Whatever the crisis, trial, or tribulation you might have faced or may be facing, God is still sovereign and is most certainly in control. More often than not, His purpose is to use tribulation to build resilience or staying power into us: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience” (Jam.1:2-3). In the midst of your life-changing trial, remember that God remains at work, using the experience to build your character. His grace will see you through (2Cor.12:9). Beneath His watchful eye, His saints securely dwell. He whose hands bear the entire universe shall guard His children to the Promised Land! I choose to celebrate My Sovereign Ruler and Redeemer.
